Have a look on Beauty and Adventure of Jim Corbett National Park

Jim Corbett National Park is one of the oldest national parks of India. It was established in year 1936. It was originally named as Hailey National Park but was renamed in the year 1956 as Jim Corbett in the honour of hunter of man-eating tigers who resided in the Kumaon hill, named Jim Corbett. Jim Corbett was turned into world’s popular wildlife conservationist later on and was also an author of few world famous books.

Jim Corbett National Park is situated at Nainital district of Uttarakhand state of India. It covers the area of around 1318 sq km and the park is well spread over a varied landscape that contains mountains, rivers, grasslands, swamps, marshes and forests. There is variety of flora and fauna.

The park is divided into two areas i.e. buffer and the outer area. There is core area that is innermost area and is untouched by the human population. In the buffer area of park, tourists like to go to spot the animals. The core area is still dense and does not have any human intervention. The area of park which is accessible to the tourists contains dense forests and Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary.

The park is well dominated by Sal forests which have covered it densely. Also, there are 488 plant species which have been found in Corbett. The fauna has great variety at the park and is plenty in number. The mammals in the park include Bengal Tigers, Elephants, Leopards, Deer, Black Bears, Sloth, Yellow throated Martens, Langurs and Indian Grey Mongoose etc.

There are around 585 species of migratory and resident birds. Few of them are red jungle fowl, crested serpent eagle, blossom headed parakeet etc. Jim Corbett National Park is also a place for 37 species of dragonflies, 7 species of amphibians, 7 species of fishes and 33 species of reptiles.

The Government of India’s great Tiger project was launched in Corbett National Park; the main reason behind it was that this park is a home of endangered species of the Bengal Tiger. A visit to Corbett National Park offers you wide variety of opportunity for exploration and better time to spend in the dense forests, where some of the rare species of animals as well as exotic varieties of birds and insects exist. There are several other things to do in this park such as –

  • Elephant Safari-It is one of the most popular things to do in Corbett. It is quite entertaining and exhilarating ride atop an elephant.

  • Jeep Safari- It is more apt for people, who want to explore the forests in little deeper way and are ready for some adventure. Jeep safaris takes the tourists throughout the course made in the forests and you can also spot a tiger, if luck is on your side.

  • Corbett Museum- This museum is totally dedicated to the founder and the eminent figure, named Jim Cornett. It contains some of the man’s weapons, old maps, books and other articles. The museum is well preserved and is an enriching experience in itself.
There are several resorts and guest houses inside as well as surround the park. You can stay at one of the luxury resorts in Corbett  and enjoy the tour of Corbett National park. You can reach Jim Corbett easily via following ways-
  • Airport-Pant Nagar is the nearest airport from Ramnagar which is at distance of 80 kilometres.

  • Rail- The nearest railway station is at Ramnagar.
Corbett Park is the amazing blend of high hills, swamps, riverine belts and green meadows that cover an area of total 522 kilometres at the foot hills of great Himalayas and it also make the park a heaven for wildlife adventure fans. The options are huge like rock climbing, rappelling, elephant safaris, fishing and angling to bird watching for the visitors.

One of the best things regarding this park is open jeep safari. You can catch the glimpse of a tigers which are resting in the moist deciduous forest in a bright winter morning. It seems like visitor’s dream comes true.

The park is open all around the year, apart from monsoon season. Corbett is not just about tigers but is also a pathway with mango orchards that lead to a complete different world that contains around 488 various species of plants and 580 bird types.
